Operation Hope
Without a doubt, one of the most pressing issues that the developed nations must address concerns how to deal with the orphan crisis in Africa. The grim statistics speak for themselves:
 |
1990 – Fewer than 1 million sub-Sahara African children under the age of 15 had lost one or both parents to AIDS/HIV.
2001 – 11 million in this age group were orphaned due to AIDS /HIV.
2010 (just over two years away) – it is projected that there will be 20 million orphans in this age group. In Malawi, where GMR is effectively ministering, it is estimated that about half of the children (3 million) will be orphaned or at risk due to the AIDS pandemic. |
GMR is making a difference by mobilizing a team of sponsors who each support at least one of these precious children for just $25 a month. Except for a tiny percentage factored in for fuel, transportation, and logistical costs in Africa, the entire monthly amount is used to provide complete support for a child in need, including a healthy diet, clothing, mosquito net, blanket, education, and caring people who will visit him or her every month.
We are currently supporting all of the orphans in three villages in Malawi: Chipula, Mwalija, and Sekela.
We are excited that every child orphaned by the AIDS crisis in these three villages have been sponsored by caring individuals. As soon as more field support workers are dispatched, we will expand into more villages in Mwalawi and also look into opportunities to bring Operation Hope to South Africa as well.
