The orphan crisis in Africa is devastating.
"Children on the Brink: A Joint Report on New Orphan Estimates... " (PDF)
Though these tragic statistics point to the urgency and the critical hour in which we live, this is also an opportunity for the Christian community to make a difference in a tangible way. Every village we visit has 20 to 100 orphans and children at risk, and these numbers continue to increase daily. Relatives of these children are in dire need themselves, yet despite their own impoverished state they absorb these children into their families. Sadly, most of these are grandmothers who have lost their sons and daughters, are too old to work in their fields, and have no other source of food. These children not only face the loss of their parents, but often are taken into these homes that have no viable means of supporting them. The ongoing loneliness, pain, and hunger that they face is compounded by the fact that their condition is hopeless without outside intervention.
GMR has developed a successful model to care for these children at risk. It covers food, clothing, medical support, regular care, and ministry from the church and its loving leaders. Just $25 US per month (tax-deductible in the US and Canada) supports a child and his caregiver. All donations go directly to the children and the distribution costs; not a penny is spent on administration. Since this project heavily depends on the help of concerned partners and volunteers, we are looking for Ministry Representatives who will keep the momentum by sharing the vision and raising more partners.
The ideal candidates to represent GMR's strategy for these at-risk children are people who are passionate about making a real difference in a world of pain and suffering. They are organizers who can host people in homes, clubs, schools, and churches. They are compassionate communicators who have the ability to inspire their audience to become a part of the solution.
If you believe that you can help us, we want to hear from you. Send us your contact information, a short resume, and a five-minute DVD in which you express why you want to be a ministry representative. If you are qualified and willing, we will train you to share the vision and provide you with PowerPoints, brochures, business cards, and administrative assistance.
